    Cam Choices

I am in the process of gathering up parts to up the power on the 68' 289 in the fairlane. The short block has been rebuilt and I have a pair of GT40 Heads ready to go on. I plan to run a 600cfm edelbrock carb and performer 289 intake//or weiand stealth intake. I want a streetable engine, but it won't be a daily driver, definitely more for fun. So high revs once in a while won't be a bad thing. Backing it up will be (eventually) an AOD w/ Low stall converter and gears around 3.00/3.25. For now the stock C4 and 2.79 rear will have to suffice.

What kind of cam goes well with that? I don't know much about the science of choosing one. I am thinking about basing it off the HO cam?

HO cam might be a rather complex choice since that 289 obviously isn't a roller block, and the majority of the HO cams are roller-type.

I'd want to go with something relatively mild, probably similar to what you'd choose for a panther chassis. Do you know what the car weighs, approximately?

Not an HO cam specifically, but something non-roller with the same specs.

Weight.. Basing it off a torino, 3300lbs.

I'll have to find the specs on the factory Hi-Po cam.
