As long as I've got this thread going anyway, I should ask--the connector on my distributor is falling apart due to years of heat, oil, etc., and it's gotten to the point where the spades aren't really mounted in there anymore, they're just pushed into the socket individually. Is there some kind of replacement connector I can get for those?

But how do I keep 'em insulated from each other? Electrical tape? I spose I should just get some nice Weather-Pac connectors...

Cut both of the factory plugs off. There are several 3 wire pigtails you could crimp on with heat shrink connectors, you could use individual heat shrink insulated crimp on bullet connectors or standard crimp connectors and put heat shrink tubing over the connectors once they are together.

I was pointed to this thread last night by Nathan in MN.
As we were shooting the shit in the chat, I told him that I may be doing my 4bbl swap a little ahead of schedule (it was originally slated for early spring/ summer). For some reason, he asked me what I was doing about the ignition. I had no idea that I would need to make some ignition changes for the engine to run as well as possible (removing the MCU, etc). Nate suggested the DSII swap, and I did some looking for what module I actually needed to buy.
According to what I came across, the modules are the same from 1976-1982 (in cars). I deduced that via PN comparison. These ('76-'82) are the 2 connector modules (one plug with 2 pins, and one plug with 4 pins); later cars have the 3 connector module (two plugs with two pins, and one plug with four pins). However, the same 2 connector module was used in trucks for some time after 1983. My family owns an '87 F350 dump truck w/ 460. Last night I went out and looked at the module, and that too uses the 2 connector module. The 351 trucks supposedly use the same module (when carbed; according to the PN comparison). I'd assume the DS2 went away at the advent of FI trucks, 1988 IIRC.
Today I went to the auto parts store and bought the module (for an '87 F350 w/ 351), and I believe it should work fine. The PN is the same for the 351 and 460. Its $43 from rock auto, but I was able to get one for $24 from my parts guy. No I just need to figure out what BS wiring can be removed now.Last edited by P72Ford; 02-06-2008, 02:35 PM.**1976 Ford F-150 4WD: 360, 4 spd, 3.50s, factory A/C, 4" lift, Bilsteins, US Indy Mags, 35s Cruiser

My '82 has the three connector harness. Pulled one from an '81 LTD in the junkyard and it was a 3-Connector blue sticker, too.1990 Country Squire - under restoration

Isn't that third connector for altitude compensation on cars with that setup? I seem to remember reading thats what it did, basically pulled some timing out to keep it from pinging with altitude86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Mine has the third connector...it's the one that you disconnect and short out to set the timing. I'm honestly not sure what it's for, but I assumed that all computer-controlled VV cars got the three-connector DS box.
