    Quick Question -- Exhaust Size

    What is the stock exhaust size on our cars? Is it 2" or 2.25"? Also, if I am gonna cut out a small section and get rid of my cats, should I get .25" bigger pipe and then some muffler clamps of what size?

    Sh!t Needed
    * SawzAll
    * Two 2.25"? Pipe Sections
    * 4 Muffler clamps

    Also if I sell cats for scrap on eBay, do I have to do anything special? Scrap cats go for pretty high. I want new front springs

    Can I get sections of pipe at AutoZone/Advance Auto? I guess I can ask tomorrow.

    Our cars have 4 cats actually (well, most of them anyways), there are two pre-cats up right after the manifolds, and the two main cats that you see down under the floorpans. If you cut the main cats off you can't sell them on ebay cause they can't be mounted back on a vehicle, and even so you're still stuck with the pre-cats still being there. I wanted cats gone off my car too, so I went to the junkyard and found a GMQ with custom catless H-pipe that would bolt up straight to my manifolds, then modified that to include the two glasspacks I wanted. That's one way you can get it done, another would be installing a catless Mustang H-pipe, but that requires removal of catted downpipes and spending more money on parts again. What I'd suggest would be to drop pull the downpipes, find a motorcycle fork spring or something else metal, long, hard, and flexible, and hollow out both the cats and the pre-cats - you will pass visual inspection, car will be quieter, and it's next to free.

    On yer original question, Panthers use a 1 7/8" ID, 2" OD piping behind the cats, cats and downpipes themselves are actually wider, 2.25" or so me thinks.

      why bother selling the cats on eGay? just find a local scrap metal recycler. thats all people do when they buy cats.

          Yeah, rather than go to the effort of cutting out the cats and replacing them with pipe, I'd just gut 'em. That's what I did--took a long punch and a hammer and knocked all the guts out of 'em.

            That is why I wanted to sell on eBay for scrap.

            What makes those scrap ones so special?

            So we have 2" pipe factory? If I am going to get sections of pipe and put them on, should i get like 2.25" or a bit smaller and then muffler clamp them on there?

              converters have several expensive metals in them
              from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalytic_converter

              The catalyst itself is most often a precious metal. Platinum is the most active catalyst and is widely used. However, it is not suitable for all applications because of unwanted additional reactions and/or cost. Palladium and rhodium are two other precious metals that are used. Platinum and rhodium are used as a reduction catalyst, while platinum and palladium are used as an oxidization catalyst. Cerium, iron, manganese and nickel are also used, though each has its own limitations. Nickel is not legal for use in the European Union (due to reaction with carbon monoxide). While copper can be used, its use is illegal in North America due to the formation of dioxin.
              people pay more for specific converters since they fit easy, you can buy universal converters for less than those, but you will have to make them fit in the exhaust.

              dont know about where you live, but around here, i believe the scrap yards pay something like $75 for a single converter, im not sure though, since i just threw my others away

                    I would do what MLSC said and find yourself an H-pipe off of a Merc or a Mustang. If they have swap meets in your area you might be able to score something pretty good at a cheap price. I would also try to unbolt the cats on your car. After a few weeks of soaking the bolts with WD-40 and with the aid of an electric impact the cats came right off of my ma's CV. Though I don't know if the cats are worth more cut off or intact.
