    compression for 5.0

ok so i bought the f 150 that i talked about a couple weeks ago. i was going thru and doing all the plugs and wires looking hoping it was just a down plug or wire as i was changing all the stuff i was compression testing all the cylinders most of them came out around 120 ish but i had one as high as 150+ what is the compression supposed to be on those.

and it does have a bad valve in the #5 position my compression in that one is only like 55.
    thanks

150+ is normal. 120 is kind of low. If there was oil laying in a cylinder it will make the compression on that particular one show way high, possible thats what happened.

The fact that it has one bad valve, though, makes me think that maybe the low compression on all the cylinders is because of valves that aren't exactly bad, but kinda iffy. Try dumping a little oil down each spark plug hole and do your compression check again. If it improves, you've probably got ring problems, if not, I'd be looking at valves.

You're gonna end up doing a complete valve job anyway because of the one bad valve, and I'd be willing to bet that takes care of it.
