    Dipstick issue

so I got this new Chrome Dipstick from Summit...made by Trans Dept...
    http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

but I'm trying to figure out how this thing attaches...the stock one was just stuck in there and pulled right out with no problem...(mounts in block)...and this new one goes in there but its real loose and I'm afrqaid that oil might start spilling outta that hole where it's at....
am I supposed to hammer it in or something?(I wouldnt think so)
it does have this bracket thingy on it as you can see in the picture of the part but I cant figure an angle to have it bolt with the headers.

anyone have any advice for me?

I think this one might fit

      http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Don't hold me to that but it says 83-93, probably Mustang and it is a ford racing part. About the only stuff they actually make for 80s vehicles is Mustang related. Its the right shape for a Mustang dipstick at any rate.

Yep, that stick works well. Got one on the LTD. I dug up my original dipstick for the Mercury, but the LTD's original motor had a pan-mounted dipstick and I got the Ford Racing one for $5 at a swap meet. Just be prepared for a very tight fit in the block - either put an open-end wrench on it and smack it with a hammer, or carefully sand or grind it to slightly reduce the OD.

I actually lived with one of those other ones for a couple of years till I figured out it was the wrong part, and that's why I had the bend the heck out of it to install it. :p

I had to say that...I thought it sounded funny too

well, I talked with their customer service and they're going to knock out he handling charge for the new dipstick...and refund my money for the wrong Dipstick and shipping fee...so, not bad at all.

the womang that helped me was very talkitive...very nice...I'm a very talkative person, so of course that call lasted about 30mins.

I'll post pics of the new dipstick likely saturday when I get it...its going to my budyd's place...its just easier to have it dropped off on his porch and have him hand it to me the next day then to drive all the way to the UPS depot every time.

btw, Gadget73, thanx for the link!

so I dropped off that return at UPS today...I guess I kinda misunderstood...they emailed me a return label for UPS, so I didnt have to pay anything, just dropped it off.
now THAT'S what I call service...dont have to pay to ship the item back and dont have to pay for the handling charge on the new part...that's kick ass!
I'll post again with my new dipstick when I get that on this weekend.
