    something wrong with my car

    Im talking about my lincoln.

Yesterday, I got new belt for my 351W, but today, I noticed my engine getting hotter. Maybe the belt into the wrong way, but I think my 351W's pully was missing or fell off?

I wondering some 351W does have pully mount?

There is 2 different water pumps:

    1 is clockwise

    1 is counter clockwise

need normal direction, not reverse direction.

I did looked at the owner's manual book, none have pic of belt directions

If you have the pic of 1980 belt direction of 351W?

    thanks,

    Jason

Trying to figure out what you're saying .......

All standard-rotation water pumps spin clockwise, same as the alternator, power steering pump, and crank pulley. I think it'd be pretty obvious if the water pump pulley had fallen off! (hint: if your six-rib alternator belt goes around only 3 pulleys and you still have power steering, and if the one that you think fits is a whole lot under 50" long - I think I use a 49.5" - you're missing a pulley somewhere!)

Owner's manuals won't usually have much in the way of service information. Even a Haynes manual from AutoZone can be a big help.

You're right, alldatadiy.com is pretty handy. It's not free - ~$15/year subscription - but I've used it before and found it very useful.

Some of the early models were V belt. Not sure if the 80 Mark VI is a V or a 6 rib. Belt routing ought to be the same in any case. If you can get a pic of how your belts are installed, we can probably tell you if its right.

good point. The '79 LTD came with a six-rib belt for the alternator side and a V-belt on the A/C side. Also had a slightly different-style A/C belt tensioner (different bracket, mostly) so it would engage with the underside of the V-belt and not the outer side like the later ones do with the serpentine-style belt. But now I'm starting to get slightly off-topic.

Belt routing looks correct, thats the same way its routed on everything else.

Yeah, '79 was the only year for the V-Belt/6-Rib Hybrid.

You've got it on there correctly. It's fairly difficult to install the belts wrong on these cars since they aren't a true serpentine. Gotta be something else causing the problem. The belt isn't slipping is it?

                      Good information!

I think the recommended tension test is that it should deflect about one-quarter inch per foot of free travel. You can measure it with a ruler and tape measure if you want to be precise.

apparently not, since his car is a 1980 and I see a V belt on the AC side.
