The "HO" firing order is really the "351W" firing order. This change was made when the 352 cube small block was born in 1968. I would think that a chip would be in order with a jump to 352 cubes.

Well that don't sound that bad at all, sure beats repinning the harness, and chips for Mustangs should be readily available for decent prices. Now if only I can get rid of my Chevy....

I was gonna say, the truck 302 has the 302 firing order, and the 302HO=351W firing order. But Mercracer beat me to it. :p

All truck V8s had the 351W firing order from 1994 on because they all used the same roller cam (except for the Lightning).....

Bout time you said something legit in a technical conversation. I think you're almost shaking off perma-n00b status!

So would a '93 truck 302 have a roller cam, or still a flattie? According to Thain's post it should, and according to Mercracer it won't yet, which is correct?

1992-1993 302 Trucks have a roller cam but it is a NoPo 302 style. Starting in 94, all 302/351s except the Lightning had the same 351W (HO) firing order cam.

I see! What about replacement motors, the truck I'm looking at has had a brand new motor dropped in, would that one be a LoPo setup, or it's more likely to be of the HO/351W firing order, any info you may have?

It depends on the part number of the replacement motor. 1992 and 1993 5.0 trucks including vans and Broncos used the same NoPo roller cam as the CV/GM cars did. I have heard of these being found in 1991 trucks also, but don't have first hand confirmation. Based on the replacemtnt motor part number, unless the application of the replacement motor was specifically a roller application, then it will not be a roller motor.

Damn man, you're a walking engine encyclopedia! So if I read you correct, it's really all terra incognita until I look at the engine part number? When I go to look at the truck, what numbers should I look for, and where would they be located?

It should have a sticker with the info. Is this a factory Ford replacement motor or an aftermarket one? What year truck?

It's a '93 F150, 4x4, long bed. I have no idea what motor it has right now, except that it's a 302 and was brand new when it was dropped in about 70k miles ago.

Define "brand new". There should be documentation with such a claim. Pull a valve cover, pull a rocker arm and pushrod and look down into the lifter valley with a good flashlight. Mystery over.

well "brand new" is what the seller said in the e-mail, I'm still waiting on him/her to get back with me on their address so I can go look at the truck. And yes, once there I'll do the flashlight thing, thanks for the tip.
