    lifters

is there a way to tell the difference between the reg lifters and roller lifters with out pulling the lifter out? and what years of 302(lopo and HO) used rollers?

If you have the manifold off you could clearly see the spider retainer and the X keepers between the lifters on a roller motor.

    all 86+5.0's were rollers

But IIRC the 85 mustang GT 5 speed only, got a roller cam 4bbl carbed 5.0

    2009 Ford F-350 6.4 powerstroke diesel. 1977 Ford F-150 built 300 six, 5 speed trans. 1976 MG MGB roadster, 359w, t5 5 speed. 1996 Kawasaki ninja ZX6R.

Only way is to remove the intake if you're not 100% sure of the engine. The spider and retainers are a giveaway. Otherwise, you're down to checking the engine casting numbers to try and figure what its from. 86+ car motors had roller hardware, trucks didn't get roller stuff till the 90s. Block is compatible, but the stuff just isn't in there.

Pull a pushrod and just measure its length. Roller lifters use a 6.250" pushrod and flat tappet are near 6.850". So 6 1/4" is roller and 6 3/4"+ is flat.
