As most of you know, I traded Dave my 2 door LTD for his Lincoln Mark VII. Seeing as how the motor has close to 300 000 kilometers on it I'm gonna give the motor a fresh rebuild. I want to put a better cam in it to but a couple people told me that I would have to get the computer reprogrammed to accept the new cam or the car will run like shit. The Mark VII btw is a 1988 and has a 5.0 liter H.O.

to get the best performance, milage, and drivability yes. but if it's a small cam, it should be fine. I'd look for something really small and eec4 friendly. Just FYI, HO cam has been used in 10 second cars...Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons

Its speed-density, you have to be careful with your cam selection. If your cam screws with the vacuum signals too much it will run horrible. It is possible to mass air convert the thing though if you need to. DO not listen to mustang weenies about cam choices for a Lincoln though, you will not be happy with it. They build high rpm no torque motors for lighter cars. The Mark VII weighs right around 2 ton, and is about 500 lbs more than a Mustang. You'd do well with something like one of the mild Comp XE series cams, a 258 or a 264 should do the job, both of which are SD friendly from my understanding.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

the 264 is a tad big, unless you do a stall converter and at least 3.73s or 4.10s
Trust me I know....
An explorer cam would work nice... The stock HO cam seems a bit much for those cars too. Even with a 2200 stall and 3.73's my buds LSC was kinda dogged until 2500 rpm. Stock motor....Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons
