    Timing gears Question

Does anybody out there know if the 302 lopo's still had timing gears with the plastic teeth in '89?
Ive read on some other threads that the 87's still had the plastic teeth gears rather than the all steel variety.....but cannot find any info past that year.
....and if the 89's had steel teeth gears, were they double roller or single roller?

    TIA

Should be a double roller non-plastic gear on an 89.All the 86+ motors I've had apart used that timing set. I won't say every single one has it, but I've not personally seen plastic beyond 1985.

      oh...ok thanx
I had my mechanic do my water pump last week and I totally forgot to tell him to replace the timing chain/gears :-(

I feel like such an ass!!

I guess I should be alright though, considering I got the steel double roller stuff.....from what I hear, they pretty much last forever....

Maybe on the weekend Ill pull the dist. cap off and rotate the cam to to check for excessive play.....just to be sure.

You should be fine with less than 100k miles on the chain.
