    Roller cam blocks

I have two questions. I have an 85 MGM with cfi, does my engine have a roller cam and if not what would I have to do to make it a roller? The second question is, can I run E7 heads without a roller cam?

it does not have a roller cam, i dont know if that block will accept one. and yes you can run the heads without a roller cam.

Roller engines have small holdown clips between the lifters to keep them from spinning. You'd either need to drill and tap the block to install them, or get roller lifters that area already bound together to prevent spinning. I've seen them avail on summit's page.

there is a metal spider thingy that holds those down, looks like this:

Thanks, I'd rather run a solid hydraulic cam anyway, But I just wanted to know If I can run the heads, thanks again!

Only blocks which are cast as roller cam blocks will accept factory roller cams/lifters with factory hold down hardware. Earlier blocks will need the bar style lifters or the conversion kit with a reduced radius retrofit cam.

Some 85 blocks are roller blocks that have the two bosses in the lifter galley for the spider, but the bosses are not drilled. Several guys with CFI 85 Mustangs have that style block. Automatic Mustang v8s in 85 were CFI as were the baby LTD LX cars.
