    too much!
.....the aluminum and steel bumpers are both chrome plated, saying that yours are chrome doesnt narrow it down......but being that your asking about an '88 box, they came with the the steel bumpers. The Aluminums started with the airbag cars("90 and up)

i have an aluminum front bumper off of an 85 wagon. the wagon had aluminum bumpers front and rear. a steel bumper with the steel inner part is about 75#s, an aluminum outer and inner weigh about 35-40#s, mine weighs about 25#s since i gutted the inner support down till it is just a bracket to mount the bumper on

My 1990 has a steel rear bumper. It was a bit of an effort to change the rear bumper by myself; it was a little weighty. I'm not sure about the front, but I'd imagine that it too is steel. My NADA book puts the weight right around 3800 for a 4 dr sedan, give or take some weight for different trim levels. Some of the two doors are supposedly as light as 3500 pounds.

I think the PI and taxi models still came with the steels....

that's odd, my '89 has steel bumpers.....I was talkin to a guy who parts out boxes and the info he gave me was that they started the aluminums in '90 and I think he also mentioned the S/Ws also had aluminums even before '90....

I thought the "heavy duty" package cars came with steel......especially an '89 like yours.
