    Adjustable Vacuum Advance

    Hey All -

Does anyone have a list of years & applications that used an adjustable vacuum advance canister? And will any of them mate-up with a DuraSpark II disto, as far as arm length & whatnot? I know Crane makes a unit that they include in a re-curve kit - don't know about any other aftermarket outfiits. Would kinda like to stay with FoMoCo though. Just hoping someone's already done the leg work and has a list put together, or at least know of a couple applications that used the adjustable. Thanks Guys!

The Duraspark dizzy's stock can is adjustable, takes 5/32" allen wrench through the vacuum port, turning clockwise you're loosening the spring inside and thus increasing the amount of advance at given vacuum reading, and obviously CCW tightens up the spring and reduces vacuum advance. At least my 460 dizzy was like that.

I've never seen a Duraspark disto w/adjustable vacuum cannistor (though the only one's I've dealt with were all DS II's). A 5/32" allen won't even fit into the vac port. I've got a unit from a '69 points-type disto that is adjustable with a 3/32" wrench, but the angle of the actuator arm is different & doesn't allow it to fit my DS II setup.

I know Ford made this type (adjustable with an allen wrench) & also the type that unscrewed from the end & were adjusted by adding or removing shims that increased or decreased the travel of the actuator arm.

Basically, what I was hoping to find was single-diaphragm (advance only), wrench-adjustable OEM cannistor that would fit my DS II disto. Probably have to go with Crane or some other aftermarket brand.

Are you sure that your vacuum can is a stock unit that came with the 460? If it is & its hooked to a DS disto, then that's what I need. Any chance of a picture of yours? Probably no Ford part #'s, huh?

My local Ford dealer "is busy with other things" & doesn't wanna wade through the micro-fiche to find something that might work. Use to have a guy that would let me come behind the counter & look for myself, but that was in the old days.

Probably be an obsolete part even if I could come up with a part #, so I guess I'll snoop around the aftermarket sights.

      Thank for the response.

Well, here's the thing - the advance can on the 460 dizzy my old 429 had was adjustable like that, and so was the one that came on the stock replacement dizzy I got from the parts store when I broke my reluctor wheel. The truck is gone now and so is the new dizzy that I put in it, but before returning the old one for core I took the vacuum can off. I still have it at home, and having a SEFI car and a diesel truck I have no use for it - it was in good working condition when pulled from the dizzy two months or so ago, you can have it for like $10 + shipping if you want it. It came off a Duraspark dizzy for a '78 pickup truck, dunno if they used DS1 or DS2 ignition in 1978, think tis DS2 tho... I can have pics of it on Wednesday when I get home.
