+1 - That's probably true of my Flowtechs as well. I ended up sanding on the mating surface a bit and the bolts are all but inaccessible. And they rust like nobody's business!!

so if i got the gt40P heads i would basically need the mountaineer camshaft to go with it ? or would my stock cam be fine---1990 Lincon LSC., 5.0 H.O., 55,000 ORIG. miles, 3:73 Posi, Bullit rims, 3G alt., 2.5" full-back exhaust, Mark 8 elec. fan, Flowmaster mufflers. My DD

You can use whatever cam you want. If you're upgrading the heads though, you're gonna want more cam. Stock cam is pretty pathetic. The Mountaneer cam or an HO cam will work fine.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

so itd just be better to get the cam with the gt40P heads, and do it all at once ??? because i got headers, high rise weiand intake, holley 4 brrl, 2 1/2 exhaust... do u think that would be good for 250 hp ???---1990 Lincon LSC., 5.0 H.O., 55,000 ORIG. miles, 3:73 Posi, Bullit rims, 3G alt., 2.5" full-back exhaust, Mark 8 elec. fan, Flowmaster mufflers. "P" heads are said not to simulate well with basic software, but they're supposed to be a decent jump over regular GT40s in real dyno testing.
So yeah, 250hp in the real world is quite realistic. :p2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

Do you have the 302 or 351 motor in your car? If you have a stock cam in your car, you'll want the Explorer/Mountaineer cam.
Also I gots a question: would the Explorer block or pistons be better then stock lopo 302 block/pistons?88 Town Car (wrecked, for sale)

yes i have a 302 in my marquis...but 300 hp !?!? lol, serious ?, thats with gt40's what about gt40P's, prolly a lil bit of a difference huh...but what might mess with the software, the cam will ??? but i thougth i got rid of the computers and such when i did the carb conversion.---1990 Lincon LSC., 5.0 H.O., 55,000 ORIG. miles, 3:73 Posi, Bullit rims, 3G alt., 2.5" full-back exhaust, Mark 8 elec. fan, Flowmaster mufflers. What's this about software? I thought you said you were going to put a Holley and HEI on it ... that eliminates the need for the stock computer controls entirely.
300hp and up is pretty easy to achieve, just gotta use the right parts. 250hp is very realistic using factory heads, and is decent for a street engine (my DD is probably making about that, and possibly even my other engine with E7 heads and Exploder cam). If you were to get ported E7s from a source like BHP or Thumper Performance, I imagine you'd easily have an over-300hp dyno run in the bag.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

i do have a 4 barrel and HEI dist. on it , but you confused me when you said,"P" heads are said not to simulate well with basic softwareand that would be sweet to have 300+ hp in a marquis, i bet i'd suprise a few people lol

Ah. Yes, I was referring to the Desktop Dyno software on my PC, which is the only engine sim software I have access to at the moment and hence one of my best sources of info on how much power different combos will make. I'm told this program (or at least, this version) just doesn't take enough parameters into account to really iron out some of the differences between components, and that it makes the GT40-P appear to suffer somewhat as a result of using a smaller 1.45" exhaust valve (versus the regular GT40's 1.54"), even though it's actually supposed to be a much better-performing exhaust port overall. Nope, the software comment has nothing at all to do with making the engine actually run in the car! :pLast edited by 1987cp; 05-23-2008, 12:15 AM.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

Explorers are a hyper valve relieved piston, stock lopo pistons are cast dished. Block, crank, rods are the same for all practical purposes.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Don't take the exhaust manifolds. they're useless.
75 bucks for a pair of P heads is a decent price. Figure 150-200 to have them rebuilt too and you're in good shape.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

That's an outstanding price! I paid rather more than that for my regular GT40 cores that aren't as good. So the heads there for sure have the four ridges and say GTP and stuff?
Do they have multiple sets of P heads, I don't suppose???2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!
