I know it's overkill for a stock engine, but I think that sometime in the future, this car will get another 5.0L in there. So I might as well get some of the set up since I got everything apart. This pan thing is something to think and discuss with my father because I know I ain't doin' this alone. We'll see what happens after the brake overhaul on the CV and the other work planned for the C-20.

Hm, extra leakage definitely == bad. I was also thinking, does anyone here run an aftermarket oilpan on their modified engine in the first place?

They're that bad??? Though my friend has a nice Moroso pan in his Chevy; so I have no idea what Milodon pans are like.

Most of the big capacity pans I've seen are simply a stock pan with the bottoms of the sumps cut out, and a box welded on. A lot of whether it leaks or not is going to depend on the quality of the pan they started with, and how much they warped it during the cutting and welding process.

Don't deep pans also need unique oil pickups?

                      yes.

my canton pan does not look like it was made from a stocker. the gasket surface has a ribbed surface for stregnth and gasket retention. it does not look like they could have done that to a standard pan.

My stock foxbody pan has that rib. Maybe it wasn't a Canton I was looking at, but it was some 7 quart pan that looked exactly like my stock Ford pan with the bottom whacked out of the pan for a box.
