    Tires -- what's best?

Due to the fact that I've had problems with the Cobra GT's and money is tight right now, I'm only going to pick up one new tire tomorrow. When money is available, I'm going shopping for a different brand of tire. Might give me an excuse to look for a new set of rims, too.

What do you guys think is a good tire to run? I'm mainly concerned with Raised White Letter style and good wet traction. Keep in mind that they are only run in the summer as I run snow tires in the winter.

Damn good tire, excellent wet traction.

Ask justin, and I myself have expirience with em...

I'm a fan of cooper tires. I used a full set of Cobra GTs last year, then after being unimpressed with performance and ride. I switched to Lifeliner STE. When I drove off it was like a new car! And they are 70,000 mile tires. I'm happy with them. Only real problem that I have is I would like to put the white letters outside, but there is a white wall on that side too.

Personally I don't like running mismatched tires on an axle, but I'm fairly happy with my Yokohamas so far. I don't have all 4 on (just 2 in the back) and I need an alignment and front shocks so I can't give a really solid opinion, only that they grip better than the junk Badyear Baldies I had before.

New Cobra GT today cost me $86 when all said and done. I'm not happy at all.

After checking around town and searching on the 'net, I've come up with the following choices that I like most:

            1. Dayton Daytona SR
            2. Firestone Firehawk Indy 500
            3. Yokohama Avid S/T
            4. BFG Radial T/A

I know that I'm going to run 235/60 on front. The back will probably be 275/60. Prices between the four listed above isn't drastically different from each other around town:

-- 235/60 -- Cheapest being "Daytona SR" at $67 to most expensive being "Firehawk Indy 500" at $83.

-- 275/60 -- Cheapest being "Daytona SR" at $73 to most expensive being "Firehawk Indy 500" at $87.

I really don't feel safe on the Cobras. I do a lot of driving and can't afford anymore tire troubles. My front tires are only a few months old and I found a nasty deep cut in the tread. I have two options:

            1. Buy a new set of (4) 235/60 and put them on the stock turbines and sell the Cobra GT's, or

            2. Ride it out on the Cobra GT's 'til I find a set of rims and put on the 235/60 and 275/60 and be done with it.

RIMS: For the style that Jason91GM is running, locals want $70/rim. Too much for me. I'm really undecided as to what style I want, too.

get wheels like mine, like 40 bucks a peice

and the 235/60 and 275/60 combo for yokohamas is what i run, on 15X7, 15X8 wheels respectively...

around 400 bucks total for wheels and tires, shipped.

check summitracing.com for wheels, and tirerack.com for tires.....

also, you want a 5X4.5 bolt pattern, with 3.75 backspacing, works perfect for my car....

Tom, what center bore am I looking for? The 3.3 inch?

Okay, guys, you pick. If she was yours . . . .

                . . . . which of the following rims would you mount . . . .

I've been tossing around the idea of blacking out the front-end like Jason91GM (I'm not trying to be a copy-cat). The chrome on my grille is in rough shape anyway.

If she were mine, I'd keep the turbines but I like the chrome wheels better. Black wheels only look good if you're going to de-chrome the car. In stock form they have too much shiny stuff to look right.

I'd love to keep my turbines, but I want to go with wider tires. It'd be great if there was an 8" wide turbine for our cars.

Sounds like a set of Kumhos that we had on the '81 GM back in the mid-'90's. They didn't go long before there was nothing left.

The tire was $69. The rest was mount and balance. Still too much $$.
