You can use a 4R70W, and then you don't have to worry about the cable, and you get overdrive.

Or, TCI makes a constant pressure vb, and the cable is just there to adjust shift points.

personally I wouldn't downgrade from an AOD to a C4, especially if the primary reason is to get rid of the TV linkage. They're not hard to set, and once its set you just leave it alone. Appearance-wise, under the hood a C4 car won't look much different than an AOD car, its got a similar looking rod running down to the trans. It does something different, but it still looks about the same.

The one big benefit of a C4 is the lighter weight (about 40#s), but no OD does suck. WHen i drive mine to most of the meets i cruise about 45-50MPH which puts me at about 2800rpms with 3.55's and 28" tires

One pertinent detail: what converter are you running with that? Tighter converter should mean lower cruise RPM!

10" TCI street fighter. advertised as a 3K stall, flashes about 2600 in my car. so yes, most logical street convertors will run lower, but the C4 is a non-lock up transmission.

so we use a 10" converter not the 11.4" one

You use whatever converter goes with the flexplate you intend to use. If reusing an AOD flexplate, you want a "12 inch" converter (11.4" bolt pattern). Then if the car will be a cruiser, keep in mind that a stock replacement converter will always give lower cruise RPM in a C4 than a fancy performance converter like Duce has.

Nothing wrong with using an "11 inch" converter (10-point-something bolt pattern), but you'll need the corresponding 157-tooth flywheel and "small" bellhousing to make it all match up.

im using the big converter bolt spacing witht eh 164-tooth flex plate and bell housing, the convertr has a ring around the outside.

Yeah, I've noticed that on a lot of performance C4 converters. Aggravatingly, though, I remember noticing that the selection of 11.4" bolt pattern converters from the usual performance brands is amazingly slim - one of the reasons I ended up with a stock replacement converter in my C4.

At the time TCI didnt even make my convertor, it was a special order. retail price was around $660, i paid like $425 wholesale.

a 28-spline, case fill, with the big bolt spacing, with the anti-baloon plate

noooo, don't want a performance converter if cruise RPMs are a concern.
