    So would this fit?

    http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

So that would bolt up right? I think that would be a good start

What could I swap over from my 302? valve covers, timing cover, oil pan? Or are 351's stuff different.

    $610 shipped.

uhh that there is a 5.4l modular engine block there is nothing interchangeable between one of those and a 302, if your looking for a 351 which i think is what your looking for it would be a 5.8l

wow i feel like a dummy now...I used to actually know that. Not any more apparently. I am seeing 5.8s around at the yards like $200, i wonder how much machineing will cost.

What can swap from 302 to 351?

Carb, aircleaner, valvecovers, rocker arms, and most accessory brackets will bolt up. Exhaust will need minor mods. What year/model 351s are you looking at?

I may go with a 302 instead, a friend of a friend can get me a 302 block for $50-$75. Then after machine process...I don't even know how much machining costs average...
I am gonna need help from you guys choosing shit for this motor too :p.

I know a guy in Indiana who has pretty good rates for machining, but it's probably a bit of a haul for you.

only the 351w interchanges with the 302. the 351C and M's are diffrent

the exhaust manifolds are the same but the motor is wider so headers need to redisigned around the body and on a stock exhaust manifolds would be too low and close together if the rest of the system was built for the 302

the oil pan and intake manifolds are two things that are definatly diffrent to 302s and 351w's

Yeah, the oilpan being different is one of the more annoying differences. I can only assume it's basically because of the bigger main bearings?

Also need different assessory brackets for the 351W swap. I forget which ones exactly, maybe the A/C and Alternator brackets?

AC bracket i 351 specific. Alt bracket isn't the same, but the 302 one works fine on the 351. I don't know what the actual difference is to be honest. I think something about one bolt on the 302 bracket doesn't line up when used on a 351, but nothing major.

If you're going with a 302, get one 86 or newer so you have a roller block to work with. More modern cam options that way, and no worries about the modern crappy oils wiping out the cam lobes prematurely.

Might also consider, why not build the old flat-cam 302? It's always possible that money spent on obtaining a different engine core would be just as well spent on either linkbar lifters or a roller conversion kit (as I should have probably done with my old 351 instead of obtaining another 302).

Have you ever priced linkbar lifter sets? Its like $450 or so for a set vs $150 for standard lifters. $300 will buy you a good used HO or Explorer roller block, and you get forged pistons and somewhat better heads with the deal too.

Yeah, a used Explorer motor that's probably in need of rebuilding.

You may have missed the inclusion of the phrase "conversion kit" that uses a $100 set of lifters. Incidentally, I recently passed on a set of used Crane linkbar hydraulic roller lifters on Corral.net for under $250.
