Pull the valves and inspect them. They may be pitted and burned. The ones on my E7 heads needed to be re-faced, and the seats cut on the exhaust side to seal properly.
Another way to test for leakage is to use ATF or kerosene or something thin to see if it leaks past the valve. Usually its done with the head upside down, and the fluid poured into the combustion chamber. Leave it overnight and look inside the ports in the morning to see if there is fluid leaking down past the valves.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
