Well, wouldn't you know it! The guy called me back. He told me that he decided to keep the heads, because he got another car to put them on. FML.

I am not willing to pay the full $1500 price tag for AFRs. I don't want to buy those listed in the ad above for 1250, because I'd like to see them before buying. This other set was just a few towns away from me.

Depending what those GT40s came from, you may not need to have the holes enlarged. Apparently Explorer GT40 heads had 1/2" holes already.

I have another possibility for cylinder heads (which will outflow GT40s, and come close to AFR 185s), which I am currently researching.

          And they would be?

My best guess would be dart iron eagles.

My guess would be RSH heads, they're cheaper and appear to have the same specs.

              you mean RHS....

Good used heads can be had for a decent price over on SBF tech. Maybe you will find a local seller. I bought my world windsor sr's over there.

I looked at RHS, and World Srs and Juniors.

Neither of those. Kind of new on the scene, but I like what I am reading.

Just tell me this: are they "offshore casting" or are they actually made somewhere with labor laws and quality control?

They aren't the 'Pro Comp' Ebay specials...

Actually Thain, I don't know where they are made.

I am looking at Patriot Performance. I have read good things in the magazines, and I have seen them in person, at the Mustangs Unlimited booth at spring carlisle.

The castings are very clean; cleaner than AFRs in some respects. There was a side by side comparison at the booth, which is how I compared AFR/ Patriot. The numbers are similar as well. The AFRs are probably better, but we are talking a $500+ savings, here.

                    https://www.patriot-performance.com/...&cat=31&page=1

As it stands, my plan is as follows:

                    -Pull engine/ transmission, and seperate.
-Swap the necessary transmission components (shift arm).
-Pull the top end off the engine, and the pan.
-Inspect the bottom end, and make a decision on what needs to be done, if anything. It holds good oil pressure/ has good compression. I am on the fence about an oil pump, rod and main bearings. We shall see.
                    -Patriot heads
                    -XE262H Comp grind
                    -1.6 RRs
                    -Weiand Stealth
-My mangy 1406 for the time being. Probably a BG upgrade later one, as that seems to be the hot thing right now.

Also, I am going to frshen the engine bay, and replace other parts that are more convenient with the engine removed...

The Patriot heads aren't going to happen.

No exhaust crossover, which means no EGR, which means I'd have pain in the ass at emissions testing time.

Also. I am temporarily putting this project on hold, as I got an interesting proposition for my F150. Someone possibly looking to trade an '89 Mustang; they're coming to see the truck tonight (along with 2 other people.)

I will keep folks updated on the plans.

Yeah, I finally went and picked up our '91 convertible. Been meaning to go and get it for months. Its wrecked.

But, no, I didn't trade for a Mustang.

Like I said, the project is on hold. Possibly indefinitely. (Until I find pre '88 police car, that is minty fresh).

If I can unload the truck, I may also try and unload my car, and get a different panther. Thinking aero TC, or '04+ P71. I don't really need a car, but I'd like a good driver. There are other possibilities too.
