    Temporary state of TOTAL panic

I was driving to work yesterday morning, on the Wm. Floyd Pkwy., cruise set at 60, not a care in the world. All of a sudden, the RED engine light comes on, fully bright! No flickering, or fading. I immediately shut the engine down, and pull over. I pop the hood. No leaks of any kind. The cars not overheating, or making ANY noise whatsoever. Against my better judgement, I restart the car, and let it idle. Light is still on, but nothing unusual otherwise. I get to work just fine. At lunch, I check all the fluids, and everything is O.K. I start the car, let it idle, and within 5 minutes, the light is on again. While it's still running, I pull the temp sender wire, light is still on. O.K., I then pull the oil sender wire, and the light goes off. I shut her down, get back under there with a flashlight, and see the sender is COMPLETELY soaked in oil. O.K. I take a DEEP breath, and grab a can of brake cleaner from my workbench. I clean up the sender, and restart the car. As she's idling, I start to see oil seeping out from where the plastic center meet the metal outer shell. I call our parts supplier, and 8 dollars, and 10 minutes of labor later, the light is OFF. SOMETIMES, once in a VERY blue moon, the GODS are smiling down upon us. I've had cars in the past, that had weak oil pressure, but I have NEVER had this happen. Anybody else ever experience this?

Scott, I've owned nothing but Chevies, until I got the Crown Vic about 8 yrs ago, and then the Grand Marq 4 yrs ago. On your maintenance list, how often do you replace them? As inexpensive as they are, that's not a bad idea.

Yeah Dave, it was pretty scary there. I'm finally keeping up with the bills right now, and an engine job would kill me. Especially since this is my daily driver, and there's no wayt I can put her down fior any length of time.

I had one go bad on a Dodge once. Oil pressure gauge suddenly went from normal to zero. Moment of panic indeed.
