I had thought you could get a TV cable with a nylon housing instead of braided stainless for a bit less $$, but I don't see one listed on this page: http://www.lokar.com/interior_pages/tc_kd.htm

I don't know carb crap that well, but the cable Nate was referring to was specifically the 90-91 5.8/VV cable. Its possible the EFI cable can be made to work for that application, but I've never tried it. I fix carb problems by installing fuel injection, so honestly I don't know what the prefered way to go the other way is. I do know the Lokar cable looks and feels like a piece of junk though, so if there is some good way to use a stock Ford part, I'd be in favor of it.

You do have something of a point there ... the stock Ford junk does seem a good bit nicer in some ways. However, especially since he already has a Lokar-style throttle cable, ordering up a matching TV cable and carb-mount bracket will make for an extremely convenient installation.

I really wouldn't mind getting more info on the '90-'91 5.8L TV cable, though. As you know, my P72 has a TV cable that's basically identical to the Lokar piece, but it's a huge pain in the butt to adjust it with it mounted as it is to a stock throttle bracket alongside the OE Ford throttle cable.

Actually ... I wonder how much trouble it would be to test-fit my 5.0 SEFI TV cable to see if it could actually work with a carburetor. I guess that's kind of one of the more critical pieces of info, since it's this cable that is easiest to find in junkards. And even if this one turns out to be too short or something, wouldn't a Mustang/Mark VII/Thunderbird cable be one potential alternative since it might be a bit longer?

I found the part numbers, SUM-700202 for Holley applications and SUM-700203 for Carter/Edelbrock installs. Think they're running about $22. Found them at random in an old print catalog from Jan. '07 right after installing my new TCI corrector just this summer. Like I said, they're on the website but not integrated into the category thing, so you can't conveniently search for them.

Alright, really stupid question here but I am going on next to no sleep as I have been getting loss ends tied up. (Got it to run off ether this morning, just finished dropping the tank and taking the pump out). What exactly does this part do? I read the discription and am loss. Again maybe I am looking over the obvious.

Suppose you get a new Edelbrock carb (for the sake of illustration, since that's what I have pictures of) and attach the cable per the Lokar instructions, as in the pic below. The idea is that in this position, the cable will tend to experience more travel than stock, and may tend to overextend itself at WOT (leading to it stretching or otherwise going out of adjustment) if it is correctly calibrated at idle. Maybe I don't go WOT enough to notice, but one member told me that when he calibrated his to go to full TV extension right at WOT, it was fully slack at idle. If his claim is true, that doesn't allow for a lot of tweakability.

And here is an image with the TV corrector installed. Same model carb and basically identical TV cable, just looks different because this car still has its original throttle cable. The bolt at the bottom of the bracket is in the original TV cable location. You'll notice that the bracket has moved the of the TV cable slightly upwards, resulting in slightly less travel. From what I've been able to gather is that you can calibrate your TV cable correctly at idle (about 5 psi line pressure stock, from what that one guy was saying) and not have the cable trying to overextend itself at WOT.

              Hope that helps a little!
