water = check engine light?

I'm guessing it's got something to do with the foul weather we've had, but I drove the boat home from work earlier in a hurricane and hit a pretty big puddle (maybe 6 inches deep but a block or so long), and the car has been out sitting in the torrential rain the rest of the time. It was off for a few hours but I went for a drive a little while ago and after a few minutes, the check engine light started to come on, go off, come on, go off, and I figured out that it would go away when I would open the throttle to a certain point and come back on when I would back off the gas.


Made a bit of an odd noise all the way revving from 2nd to 3rd at one point during this, but that only happened the once time. Anyway, it stopped after about 5 minutes. Fine after about 40 minutes of driving.

Ventured out again and it's still fine.


It'll store it when the idiot lights come on? I'd imagine I need to get someplace with a scanner for this

You can pull them with a test light or a jumper wire as well. fordfuelinjection.com has directions.

Probably water in a connector. I had my car go completely braindead following a heavy storm once. Traced it to water in the ECM connector. Dried it out and applied some dielectric grease and all was well.
