Are Mark VII HO computers speed governed?

I heard they were governed at 112. If so that blows because that is what i have and i can go faster than that with my stock computer.

I had the speedo in mine stuck in the corner past 120 the other night. I have had it top out at 115 previously though. If you don't hook up the VSS wiring to the ECM (and on an 87, its not there from the factory) there is no governer.

So what you are telling is that I can install the HO computer I have into my car and without doing any extra work have it keep pulling 112+?

yep. I had the Towncar well over 112 a few times. I should take the GPS along and re-confirm that speed limiter thing in the Mark. Could be the previous 115 was because I had only half the exhaust, vacuum leaks, and dead O2 sensors. The car runs a lot stronger now that its had some TLC.

Just for the fun of it - I've seen my TC's speedometer needle point in P... Altho it wasn't me driving it, I've only had the gutst o take her up to 120mph, where she stayed for like two hours, hence why I know she could get 20mpg flying low like that. But that was a few years back.

So, you were doing 120mph, for 2 hours and got 20mpg will doing that?

Yeps, surprised the hell outta me - I had a place to be and not enough time so I took the hammer lane on I75 and expected that I'll be watching the gas gauge needle move (like my Chevy did when I got her over 110mph), but no, she just kept on going, after a while I thought my gas gauge was way off so I pulled over and refueled, and she only took so much fuel, a quick calculation put it at right about 20mpg. And yes my tank was indeed full to the brim, as I had fuel overflowing through the filler, and then drove a few hundred more miles on that one tank. You gotta remember we're talking about a car that used to get 24 mpg all the time on the freeway, occasionally she'd stay at 26, and on several occasions (two or three times IIRC) I've seen 28. One of those freaks of nature I guess... and now if she breaks 20 it's a reason for celebration, lol

                          120 mph X 2 hours = 240 miles.

Where on RT 75 in Michigan are there 240 miles straight enough to go 120?

From Detroit north, you can get all the way to the UP like that if there's no traffic or smokey bears to stop ya. Small hours of the night are your friends if you gonna do stuff like that, and avoid Friday and Saturday nights cause the LEOs are out in force. Oh yeah, and you kinda need to have a car that handles well, the bowl of mash potatoes handling the Panthers have from the factory will get you a close encounter of the third kind with a guard rail for sure...
