What's the name of this part?

The big coffee can on the driver's side fender. My car seems to be having a problem with low vacuum and this part is very rusty. I went into O Reilly auto asking about a vacuum reservoir and they stared at me for a few minutes, smashed on their keyboard a couple times, rolled their eyes and said they never heard of it. Anyway, I'm trying to find one in better shape and I've also heard that using a smaller one out of a newer model would work better. Does anyone know where can I find this new or what does a newer one look like so I can check the self-service junkyards?

That's the vac can. 90+ cars have a vac box, if you can find one of those in the yard, from what I gather they work better than the cans.

Ok, thanks. Do you have a picture by any chance so I can be sure what I'm getting? And what years can I take it off of, because my local junk yard scraps a lot of cars older than 92.

So it's the crooked shaped box with the one line going to it? Will it look the same with the 92+ cars?

You cannot see the vacuum line going into it in the picture but yeah your description is correct. I think the 92+ cars vacuum reservoir looks a bit different but as long as you can bolt in on it will be fine.

Here is a much better picture of the one i have you can see the vacuum line on the bottom right of the reservoir.

Where can I get one of those new? I even tried looking it up on the Rock Auto and Motorcraft sites but they all look different and O' Reilly auto has what's called an egr vacuum reservoir for my '86.

I've been on this subject for a while and want to stop bothering forum members, but will this work on my '86 Grand Marquis?

vacuum canisters are vacuum canisters really. The shape is not important. Last I knew, they were available new from Ford, but only in the larger Folgers can size, not the Dinty Moore stew size.

Dont see why not and you can relocate the canister anywhere you want if you want to keep it hidden.
