I've gotten ALMOST 18 gallons into it when I was running it dangerously low....

MPG by the way seems to be hovering around 20-21 in mixed driving (maybe 50% highway). Seems a tad lower than I was getting before.

Best ever so far has been 24.5.

Worst ever so far has been 16.9.

What's the farthest anyone has gotten away with as far as low fuel as indicated? I've gotten to the point where almost all of the needle was on the low side of the empty line, but I got scared and thought it was stuttering. I'm not sure if it was low fuel or just how crappy it was running at the time.

I get about 18mpg mixed...not a lot of high speed highway cruising but the exhaust sounds so good I love getting on it a bit so my mileage suffers. Also let the car idle for 5 minutes in the morning to warm up

I got scared because I thought I had transmission issues the one time that happened to me. BUT, the problem was that the needle was still on the high-side of E. Just barely touching it, but above E. Thus, I think either the markings on my gauge, or my needle, are offset slightly for some reason.

Freaky thing is that two or three times since I've bought the car, the Low Fuel light came on when the needle was still at the halfway mark - and the needle was accurate because I was keeping track of miles driven since the last fill up.

Typically, though, my Low Fuel light comes on at about 1/4 of a tank (according to the needle) or slightly lower.

heh... my 88 low fuel light would come on when the needle gets to just above the E. The needle will drop about 1/8 tank below the E though. You're probably right on the alignment of your needle.

Mine the light comes on about 1/4 tank, and it runs out when it hits E.

I remember on the 81' that I had, when topped off would read right on the "F" mark, but when I switched the speedo to a 140, that guage went about an "1/8th" past the "F" mark. I always wondered if it would have worked the other way for "E" too, meaning it would go an "1/8th" tank past the "E", but I never dared to try it.

On a side note.....I got over 300 miles out of my last tank of gas.....
Reading just below the 1/8th mark.

Topping off for me ALWAYS has the needle way past the F mark - actually probably slightly MORE past the F mark than the distance from F to 3/4.

I can pull 24mpg out of mine with majority highway miles. I set the cruise at 60-65 on the highway and just let her float. If I drive her hard, it drops to around 18mpg. Regular fill ups with the needle on E take about 14 gallons, idiot light usually tells me when I have 6 gallons left.

I played "How Low Can It Go" once. It was late night, I was out in the boondocks and nothing was open. It went what looked like a quarter tank lower than E. When I filled it, it took almost 17 gallons.

120 miles on half a tank at about 75mph. What size tank do these cars have 15 gallon? I would do the math if I knew this for sure.

If it is 15 that is 16mpg highway FTW!
