1990 Lincoln TC problem - enigne dies in hot weather

    Hi,

friend of mine has occasional problem with his 1990 Lincoln Town Car. Sometimes under heavy load (heat in summer, high speed on highway and then stuck in traffic jam, or heat and a trailer) engine dies and it wont start again. Starter is OK, engine turns few times but nothing more. He has to wait about 10 minutes and then everything is allright. Engine temperature is OK, cooling system as well.

Any suggestions? (maybe fuel pump?) thanks.

BTW: I have not been here for few weeks/months and I see there are some major changes here My marquis is unfortunately still not moving, no time for that.. but I have moved it to supervised parking lot, it was interesting look

sounds like a battery with a weak cell. I had that happen on another car. heat would kill the battery but if I let it sit and cool off, I could crank it and go.

considering that it will also up and die while running... it could be the ignition module (is that one a TFI?).

Looks like that wagon is as big as the wrecker.

Sounds like the TFI module to me. They're known to die when hot and work again when things cool off. When its replaced, use thermal grease on the back of it. Sometimes the replacement modules come with clear stuff, and thats not what you need. You need the white or grey stuff used for computer heat sinks. Any computer store should have what you need. Don't need much, just enough for a thin coating across the module.
