My New Exhaust System(Need Your Opinions)

I am getting a new exhaust for my car. I am getting two Tailpipes from a Fox mustang 5.0. I am getting an H-Pipe from a Box. And heres where i need some deciding. What sounds better.

i either want 2 Walker glasspacks or 2 Flowmaster Super 40 or 44's.

Which one would sound better on a Grand Marquis 1983.

I am trying to get that muscle car rumble at idle.

the cheapest Price i can get for the super 40 or 44's is $69.99

The Walker Glasspacks #24102 are $30.89

Mustang pipes have the wrong bends in them. You can put those tips on the Impala pipes if you want. The Impy pipes end a good 14" short of the bumper so you'll need to do something with them anyway. Having tips put on will take care of things.

Not a fan of asspacks or blowmasters. Asspacks sound like a shitty pickup truck, and blowmasters drone horribly. Dynomax SuperTurbos or Magnaflows sound a lot better to me.

another thing is the box H is only 2", you should look into just getting 2 1/2" bent up

the front pipe is more important diameter wise then the tailpipes

he's got an eec3 cfi engine.......2.5" would kill what low end torque he's got
                mang

gadget is right the reason i say mustang tails wont work is cause the bends are all wrong.....dont think i tried it already?

for cheap good mufflers i like thrush turbos.....last set i bought was around 50 bucks a pr........the thrush welded turbos are around 70 bucks a pair and they also sound decent

what do they mean if the muffler is not reversible. the super 44 and super 40 come only one way so i would have to flip one to make it work.

it means the muffler is directional, it has a specific inlet and outlet. You can roll them over, but in means in, out means out.

Yay, another thread about how best to make a slowmobile louder for the sake of being louder. We have miles of threads on this topic .....

If you have to ask that, you obviously have no idea how Rumblebastards are constructed. A visit to Flowmastermufflers.com, or even just a Google image search, can clear that up in a jiffy. :3gears:

Oh, and for the record, I have run Mustang tailpipes on a Panther. They do fit ... after a fashion. On mine, I had to cut them off after the bend because they end up in nothing like the intended orientation, and even then things were uncomfortably tight. The B-body tailpipes install virtually like stock Panther pipes, but cheap ones are only available in 2" (might as well use Panther pipes) and 2.5" (be prepared for tailpipe resonance). Flowmaster offers 2.25" B-body tailpipes that include resonators, but they're more like $100 each versus more like $40 for other options (though then you may want to spend extra to do something about the resonance).

My usual theory with mufflers is to run the cheapest or quietest one that provides acceptable performance levels. Plain $20 "Economy" mufflers from your local parts supplier will usually accomplish that just fine, at least at my pathetic power levels (~250ish). With a 130hp engine and cats, no mufflers at all might even yield acceptable sound levels, depending on your personal preferences.

What are your future plans for the car?

after the new Dual Exhaust system. EFI conversion is next on the list, then new vinyl top, and new paint. Then it's my everyday car.
