    fluid capacities

i can't find my damn manual and it's got all of this stuff listed

    brake fluid
rear gear oil (also what oil should i use for this?)
    power steering fluid

anyone know what these capacities are in a 90-91? going to flush the power steering system as best i can and replace it with all new type f. don't feel like replacing hoses so i'm just going to put it on stands and use the turkey baster method...suck some out of the reservoir, refill, turn wheels lock to lock, suck out the fluid in the reservoir now, repeat until it's all clean looking like the pretty pink type F.

i also need to bleed my brakes so i don't know how much dot3 to have on hand.

also, noob question: when i've got the car up on stands (so there's no resistance at the wheels i presume?) and i'm turning it lock to lock will the fluid still circulate if the motor isn't running or do i need to run the car as well? i don't know if the turning action of the steering wheel will push fluid through or not.

I've found this to be helpful, go to www.amsoil.com and put in your car year/make/model, and it shows you a list of capacities and recomended viscosities.

I'm pretty sure the engine has to be running to circulate fluids through the PS.

A trick I've found is to unhook both hoses from the PS pump, let the fluid drain from the reservoir, then use an air hose to push the old fluid from the steering box. Hook the hoses back up and fill it with fresh fluid. Start the engine and turn the wheels lock to lock several times to work out the air and top off reservoir as needed.

man.. i think my ps is acting up.. theres a characteristic whine, and chattering of the belt at low rpms now. the resivour seemed low, but when i went to add some fluid i topped it off and went to work the wheel back and forth.. the fluid i added was clear, and this evil looking reddish brown stuff started pluming up from the bottom. so idk.

type F ATF is what's used in the older steering pumps. It's red (or black if it's really old cause of all the dirt in it). so if you added power steering fluid (the clear stuff) you'll see the red return quick. Now if your car is newer (92+) and has the newer stuffs in it... then it's probably just the dirty fluid from the gearbox/rack.
