    Roller Lifter "Conversion"

Could you get a part number or more info on the roller conversion stuff? Just the dogbones, hold downs, and roller lifters.

85 4 door 351 Civi Crown Victoria - Summer daily driver, sleeper in the making, and wildly inappropriate autocross machine
160KMs 600cfm holley, shorty headers, 2.5" catted exhaust, 255/295 tires, cop shocks, cop swaybars, underdrive pulley, 2.73L gears.
waiting for install: 3.27's, Poly bushings, boxed rear arms, 2500 stall converter, ported e7's, etc

Those are just factory parts. The only thing they will "convert" is a 86+ 302 from a truck, etc which did not come with a roller cam.

Why would they only convert an "86+ 302"? The aftermarket conversion packages I've seen implied they'd fit any SBF that came as hydraulic flat tappet.

        Roller Lifter "Conversion"

Instead of hijacking a For Sale thread, I put it here. 1986 and newer blocks are cast with taller lifter bores for factory roller lifters and the block valley is cast with the 2 bosses to accept the "spider" hold down bolts. If you have an early block you must either use a reduced circle camshaft with factory lifters and aftermarket hardware which goes in the valley to accept the spider or you use the expensive link-bar aftermarket lifters and a standard factory type roller cam.

Thanks, that does clear it up.

I'll just add that there seem to be lots of people who won't touch a RBC cam with a 10-foot pole ..... I'd considered for a while sticking one (Comp 35-421-8, IIRC) in my old '87 351, but I've since decided that linkbars are the way to go for rollerizing that engine.

One guy on Corral.net (I think it was) claimed that he got away with running a stock HO roller cam with the stock lifter setup in a nonroller block ... but I'm under the impression that that was getting a little scary in terms of lifters popping too far out of the holes.

Cheaper to put together a whole new engine than to spend $250-$400 on a set of lifters that are better anyway? I highly doubt it. It's also at least ten times the hassle, and then you'd have a surplus engine you need to scrap or otherwise dispose of.

I also have a philosophical problem with excluding ~25 years' worth of 351W production blocks from consideration just because of a prejudice.
