    how to clear codes

    wondering how do you clear codes from a 89 vic ive done it before just forgot how. i know you unhook the battery besides that im not sure.

    start pulling codes and then shut off the code scanner, or unhook the wire when it starts spitting them out.

      If that doesn't work, just unplug the ECM ground at the battery. You don't have to disconnect battery, just pull the plug at the pigtail off, then plug it back in.

        doesn't that erase any long term learning data though ?

            To clear codes, you're gonna put it in self test mode, without the engine running. It'll flash codes it sees right away. When it flashes the seperator codes, and starts flashing stored memory codes, that's when you take it out of self test mode. Though if you get anything other than a code 11 in the regular code scan, you should fix those first.

              I tried that last week and it never did anything :confused:. only way i could clear the continuous memory codes was to disconnect the jumper right as they were being output.
