    Box CV vs box Caprice

I never owned a GM car all My cars Were mostly Fords and few Mopars, so how does box CV compare to box Caprice? Did you guys had any experience with them?

    #1, wrong forum.
#2, I don't know about you, but I don't see that many box caprices. So that pretty much explains that they suck.

A 350-powered Caprice will have more grunt compared to a 302-powered CV. Back in the day, my Aunt and Uncle had two box Caprice wagons for towing their travel-trailers across Canada. I rode in each car and they were very comfortable. I've never driven one though.

I had a 87 with a 305. Ran good, felt comparable with a stock lopo. Never drove it on the road though. I hated the interior on that thing too. Still an over all good car. I'd own another given the chance. Car took a hell of a beating, and until the tranny went, it never let me down.

Ironically I see more box Caprices around here than box panthers.

I've been dusted by a Caprice in my CV. He had a 350 and put a rod through the block a few months later. Last laugh!

I like GM B body cars just fine. I just have impeccable taste, and as a result, prefer the Panther.

I nearly bought a Caprice wagon with the 350 many years ago. Had alot of get-up for such a big car, more than the Panthers of the same age that I have driven. I always slightly prefered the box Caprice looks over the box CV looks... that is, until they were both outmoded by Aeros and Bubbles and Whales and Donks or whatever. Now, looking back, I prefer the CV, as long as its a slicktop.

I've owned a few box GM wagons... good cars, although the interiors didn't feel as lux as my MGMs.

Box GMs cost more than Fords hereabouts, and the kids like to donk them.

I say take your pick, they're functionally interchangable and you'll need to budget for upgrades either way. Panthers were more or less a direct ripoff of a '77-up B-body anyway, and a derby goon told me Caprice drivelines and suspensions swap right into a Panther with very little trouble. I've heard that Caprice bodies can withstand more beating at the cost of higher weight (Box Panther sedans were about 3450 lbs to 3800 lbs.), but that info is unverified. I do kind of like the fact that later box Caprices went to new-style mirrors and headlights. Other than that, basically it's a question of which model you find less annoying to drive, what brand parts you see yourself having easier access to for cheaper, and of course which will be less likely to be relocated by area hoodlums.

Mostly the same car. Ford wouldn't have the Panther chassis in 79 if GM hadn't re-designed the B body in 77. They're so close to the same vehicle under the skin its not even funny. GM uses a C channel frame where Ford uses box framing. Fords are more rigid as a result, but they have the potential to rot from the inside of the frame, mostly where the AC drips. GM TBI sucks a lot less than Ford CFI, but Ford SEFI runs very nicely. 302 SEFI and a 305 TBI are very comparable engines. Overall, its a lot of personal preference. Neither car has a big advantage over the other IMO.

I've never driven a B body but I've been a passenger in a shit ton of them. I think the Fords have been more comfortable.

The interiors (mostly dash) seem to be the main difference, and vics win big time. I kinda like the caprice body better, but around here there seem to be more nice vics and more rotted caprices

I'd rather have a two door Caprice than a two door CV.

First reason being the fact that you have the wonderful GM/ Chevy performance options, including long tubes.

2nd being, I like the round wheel openings better than the square.

They are just as good as the Fords, in my opinion. My dad had a Caprice Estyate wagon for years.
