    pitman arm

I just bought an autozone duralast pitman arm. Its made in tiawan. I hope its better than the china and india crap. Wheres moog made? Mexico? Its pretty bad when we think mexicos the good old stuff.
Duralast was $29.99. Moog was $83 at advance auto, $ 67 with 20% off. Im wondering how the duralasts hold up. I used to always buy moog. Duralast has a lifetime warranty. I can return it if their pure crap & get a moog. Im suprised autozone doesnt sell moog.

It wasnt too bad getting the original one off, 102,000 miles. I wound up an old cornwall puller hard, hit with a hammer some. Nothing, wouldnt budge. So i took my 3/4 breaker bar and rested it on top of the pitman arm from under the hood (moved the air cleaner over) and whacked the bar 10 times and it popped off.

3 tierods & idler arm bushing ( its orginal idler) to go. The rubber on the control arms are getting kind of beat but im not in the mood for doing them now. I just noticed tonite my 06 towncar upper bushings are starting too crack a little at 51,000.I changed the 06 tire tonite. the cheap harbor freight tire changer worked perfect. The bubble balancer always works good, but im doing 1 tire at a time to make sure. 3 more to go. It had michelon black walls. We got ww michelons . Im changing them myself because i dont want them scratched up. That cheap tire machine worked good. I sold my good ones back in 94. This ones good enough.

So, how do the duralast hold up? Havent installed it yet,
    thanks, steve

They do sell moog. Lol. it's under a different name though. If you want to pay for a name, go for it. If I'm not mistaken, the duralast gold is the Moog.

On the az web site they only list duralast, no gold. I googled duralast and theres tons of people arguing about az duralast quality. Some claim they work at az and everything is the same, just different labels, valuecraft or duralast gold. 2 employes claimed perfect circle makes thier suspension parts. Who knows.
Im going to check where trw are made now. I really hate gook crap. This country is $hit. I hear moog is being made in asia now. My mopar buddies are buying up some old moog parts from rock auto, the mexican ones before thier all sold out. Now autolite plugs are made in asia. I saw the factory on tv. It looked like a 3rd world setup.

gook crap? come on man, no need for the slurs.

Anyways, TRW is almost universally high-end. Moog is also good, would not worry.

You can always ask to see the boxes at the actual store? unless you're somewhere with virtually nothing in stock.

The problem with a lot of this imported stuff is that it has a low price but it comes with a high cost. By that, I mean the quality isn't as good, so it doesn't last as long. Its just not a good value in a lot of cases. Japanese stuff in the 50s and 60s was no better, but they improved dramatically. Lets hope that China does the same. At least in the 50s and 60s when you could get junk Japanese stuff, you could also buy quality American items so there was an option. Unfortunately now in a lot of cases its Chinese stuff or nothing at all. Unfortunately this is what happens when everyone's goal is to buy stuff for the smallest price tag they can get it at. Thank you Sam Walton.

I returned the duralast to azone and ordering a trw from advance auto for just $13 more. They have a online special 20% off till 9-13? Their trw tierods were both usa and mexico. Hopefully the pitman is usa or mex. They were out of pitman arms.

Both photos of trw and moog pitmans were identical right to the casting #s and marks except fore the flat insert that holds grease fitting. The moog says moog on that area. Looks like the same company makes both if pictures are actually really them. Moog might have a better bearing or something in the joint. I will email moog for the heck of it. Moog also has a spring to adjust wear. Im sure its better, im just cheap. I have moog everthing in my 70 440-6 challenger and when the 06 tc needs something, it gets the best.

But check out advance autos sale. Im getting my pitman arm $2 less than rockauto with free shipping to the local store, plus a bunch of more parts .

Does not mean anything. Parts stores will rebox. Returned parts may have been swapped by unscrupulous buyers. Gotta look at the part and hope you know what identifying details you are looking for.

Funny, when I ordered TRW balljoints from Advance a couple years ago, I remember being under the impression that they were made right here in Michigan.

I recall just going with Duralast when I needed a pitman arm, and it's been fine so far, but then, I don't use my car anything like as much or as hard as a lot of guys do.

TRW used to be made in Michigan, but I think they have since closed production up there.
