Rear end thoughts. need fabrication notes

Well I've got a few friends with Ford rear ends and a buddy with a GM 12 bolt. I've got the stock
    8.8 with 3.55s
I'm just wondering what others have done for their rear end solutions really. I'm really open.
I am thinking of dropping in a 351ho I know of.

easiest solution is to find yourself a 90s towncar limo and swap the axle. 31 spline axles, 3.55, usually has a limited slip carrier too. Honestly unless you're planning to make some serious power with that 351, the chances that you are gonna scatter a limo rear are reasonably small. heck, the stock 28 spline would probably hold up to more than you might expect.

If you're set on dumping the 8.8 and are willing/able to do the fabrication required, go for a Ford 8 or 9" with the full floating axles and the removable third member. I'd wager there are more performance parts for the 9" and its probably overall a better rear than the 12 bolt.

studs and a girdle/cap will hold up to more than you think. I haven't scattered the diff yet. I have stressed it other ways that the axles have failed. Just straight line stuff those items, and a set of axles- if you want more, custom 31 splines and a matching diff should be fine.
