    Starting problem

    Hey,

    Engine cold:
Turn key to start, starter click and engage flywheel strong sounding, sounds like engine is being turned over then a few cyl firing, then stops dead.
Not the metal sound of pistons screeching, but

Press accl down once, then repeat and starts OK, yet still sounds like it is being cranked then firing, rather than crank/turnover simultaneously.

TPS, old spark wires, coil? Cap and rotor are new brass contacts ~6mos old. Plugs have prob 10K on them ~ 5+ years old.
Problem recurs with Premium gas too. Fuel filter PurOne ~10K miles. Oil good, Coolant good. Heater/AC doesn't work.

    Engine warm:
No problem, starts up with a roar (dual cherry bombs) = awesome. Purrs on road at 75, nice cyclical rhythm. Accel and Tranny accel, gear drop on sudden accel - even better than it has been. Actually it's running better now like some crap was blown out.

    Drive maybe 50mi a week.

IAC clogged, or Air Temp Sensor dead most likely.

Start it however you can (foot on the throttle etc) and once it has started to idle, unplug the IAC and see what happens. It should stall.

If it doesn't I would be looking in that direction.

So, where would these buggers be located on my engine?

I have the EFI version with the aluminum manifold.

        Thx.

IAC is on the throttle body (cylinder shaped thing bolted to the side with a 2 wire connection) and the air temp sensor for the engine is on the driver side of the lower intake near the front of the car. It's also a 2-wire job. Should be about the same general location as the fuel injector for the front most cylinder on the driver side. Both can be tested. Not sure of the OHM specs for various temps of the air temp sensor though.

that first one is the one on the lower manifold, driver side, up front.

The second one should be on the thermostat housing... ish.

and yeah... the ECT will also cause shit when it dumps.
