    There is no crank sensor on an 84. It runs off the pickup in the distributor. This is a big part of why they run retarded when the timing chain is sloppy. If the output signal to the ecm is jumping and lagging from slack in the chain, it tends to make everything go stupid.

    83 runs totally different stuff, and it actually does have a diagnostic connector. Doesn't tell you much, but it is there.
