    IAC issues

The stock iac crapped out and i replaced it, awhile ago. The idle is much too high and i cant adjust the screw on the throttlebody anymore. Its been through MANY drive cycles. What am i missing?

You've got a vacuum leak or the replacement part is poorly made. THe aftermarket parts don't always work right. The screw shouldn't ever be adjusted either. I'd be swapping that IAC for another, and if you have a choice in the matter, get a Motorcraft.

'91 CV, 5.0. The replacement is a proven part off another car. No vacuum leaks. The idle starts high, tapers off just a little. Put it in gear and while its waiting to fall into gear, the idle increases several hundred R's. the idle also increases significantly when you turn on the defrost or a/c.

is the TPS good? Any codes? if the TPS is out of range, it also tends to do goofy stuff to the idle speed.

If the idle screw has been adjusted, the TPS will be wrong, and will cause all kinds of problems. I'd also look into vacuum leaks, very common on these old POS's. Brittle old plastic, dried rubber....

Is there a way to test a vacuum leak without puting your ear to all the lines?

propane leak on a stick... when the engine revs... that's the leaky location.

Sounds pretty clever, my fear is that it might ignite something , no?

Shouldn't unless you hit the ignitor.
