    oops.... window question?

went up to where my 89 has been sitting for two weeks.. was scraping the layers off ice off and somehow the rear drivers door glass shattered.... what alls involved in replacing this glass?? also tried to unlock passenger front door and heard something snap inside, lock cyl spins all the way around now, and drivers door handle has no resistance.. have to open rear door and reach in and open drivers door.. all worked before it sat 2 weeks in the cold and ice... *grumble*

for the glass: there's 2 rivets to be drilled out on the regulator... then you just bolt in the new glass with all the washers with 1/4" bolts/nuts/lock-washers. You'll need to remove the outside dew-wipe (acorn nut on the end of the door).

as for the lock cylinder... there's a clip on the door, jamb side, above the latch that probably broke. Replace that clip should sort that. You'll probably have to replace a few of the plastic rod retainers as well as it sounds like those let go too.

Drop by harbor freight and get yourself a kit of them. They're cheap and useful to have around.

1/4 for the rivets. It can be a royal PITA to drill those centered. Sometimes a dremel works better and just grind the whole rivet cap off.

I have both driver side windows that do not go up. I found a cheap window replacement is to get a clear plastic desk top cover from Office max or Office Depot, trim it down to size and tape it to the window frame. It keeps the cold air out and it is as clear as the original window. The sheets were 20x36 inch for $34.99. One sheet will do the front window and one sheet will do two back windows. The openings are 16x31 for the front and 16x20 for the back. I bought three sheets and are placing inside and outside the window sandwiching the original glass window in the middle. It is better than plastic bags that you cannot see thru and is extremely quiet. You will forget that the plastic is on. It is so clear.
