    What is it, attached to my exhaust manifold

    1985 lincoln town car cfi. What is this valve called and what does it do.... It seems stuck....it is on the drivers side exhaust manifold before the cat....

    That closes off that side of the exhaust during engine warm-up. Forces it to go through the intake manifold and get it hot quicker. Not a big deal if it is stuck open. Just takes longer to run nice. I believe vacuum pulls the plunger in to close it off. That makes me think it is stuck open.
