    HighER idle and engine "coughing"

I had a chance to clean the intake and TB with the AMSOIL powerfoam. Took it out, got the smoke out. After all that, after poking my head by the exhaust, I notice I don't here the coughing from the exhaust pipes (awesome). It even seems to run peppier.

Now I notice when engine is cold, idle is all right, but after driving to warm temp, I notice the idle is higher. I also noticed that when the car goes into OD, and I tromp the gas (under load) btw 40-55 the engine would cough (feels like a miss). Any idea if this has anything to do with cleaning the intake? Did I push the carbon and crap further down the line?

      Scott,

That is the thing, it never did it before. Or if it did, it was incredibly rare. It seems to duplicate very intermittently, weird...

I was think of looking at the plugs to see.

Also, I might use my scanner to see if there are any error codes

That's what I am thinking, I will pull them, verify the .052 gap put before I do that, probably run one more shot of the powerfoam stuff through the intake just to chase the leftover crap out to the exhaust.

the rear plugs in a 302 are prone to fouling anyway, so its possible the magic juice broke something loose and sludged them. The intake runners on those back cylinders are always more crapped up than the other 6.

I had new plugs and wires put in the car a couple of years ago, so I guess that must be it.

Any reason why my idle gets higher as the car gets warmer?

IAC might be sticky and not returning fully to the shut position. Or maybe someone jacked with the "idle screw" and it can't control the idle down to where it belongs. Unplug the IAC and see if the idle drops. If it doesn't, thats why.

Magic potions make strange things afoot at the circle k... IAC is probably loaded with crud I bet. Clean that like I did with the Merc. Don't let the engine stall though...

                      John,

So run throttle body cleaner in the hole on the side of the throttle body where the IAC goes into it?

Yeah, that should clean the IAC if it's sludged up.

Ok, I wasn't sure if spraying in that hold in the throttle body going into the IAC would do harm. I thought it would

No just don't stall the motor. If you do wait a few minutes to let the stuff evaporate.

                              great, thanks John.
Besides the higher idle, the coughing has stopped. I didn't pull the plugs yet, but it seems whatever was stuck is now gone!
