Well, if you buy budget Motive gears from ebay ($150), you still need a trac install/ rebuild kit ($50-$100) and professional installation (highly recommended). Shop around for a good and experienced mechanic and get a quote within your bedget, as the gears should be installed to certain specs/ tolerances with the right tools. It's not exactly a "driveway job", if you know what I mean...

well i can get some gears for around 30-50 bucks, and I don't know what a track loc is but sounds expensive. and the install better not be some insane 500+ dollars

You'll probably spend $500 total, if you shop around. I'd say labor shluld be around $150-$350, depending on the mechainc (dealer vs. private vs. friend).

Traction-lock is Ford's version of "Posi"; which you may or may not have, depending upon your door code. It should be rebuilt when you swap gears...

trac-lock is a limited slip unit. Any 28 spline for an 8.8" rear will work. Should not be a crazy amount to install it, since the standard open carrier has to come out to swap the gears. At that point, its pretty much a matter of installing the trac-lock in place of the open carrier.

random first hit ebay link has one for $125 buy it now and free shipping.

If you hunt around you can probably get a better price. If getting a higher mileage used one, rebuild kits are avalible from Summit for about $50.

I paid a few dollars for a set of gears from the junkyard. $40 for the rebuild kit from www.adtr.net. and $80 for the rear end rebuild kit (alll the bearings seals, crush collar) and had it installed for $20
