    Finally Got a 3/8" Phenolic Intake Spacer

    Hi All,

    Well, I just managed to get my hands on one from E-bay, complete with longer bolts, for my 91 GM. It also came with two gaskets, one for each side of the spacer.


    It doesn't have the small (egr) hole in the middle of the spacer, though. I figure I'll get a hole saw and drill it in (carefully!).

    The question for my buddies here is:
    Should I put gasket shellac, RTV, or spray sealer on the gaskets before attaching them to the spacer, or just do it dry?

    It's only making an air seal between the upper and lower plenum.
    What are your opinions?

      You can do it dry and it should be fine. If you are anal, wipe them down with some oil, and then put it on. DO NOT USE RTV! The chemicals that it releases will ruin your O2 sensors.

        I put mine on dry - no problems.

        When I pulled it apart, it was clear that the factory assembled it dry, too.


        HO with Explorer Cam, Electric Fan, Cop Sway Bars, Dual exhaust with no mufflers, 15x7" American Racing; 215/70R15's front, 255/60R15's rear, 3.55's with Trak-Lok.

          LOL, I have one sitting in the barn doing NADA. DO not but anything on the gaskets!

                    Only 13 posts in over a year? I smell a loner, maybe a rebel. Maybe he doesn't like us. Maybe he's ashamed of us. Is it our missing eye? Our awful smell. Or our bum leg? Maybe he's an Import lover!!!!

                      Be very careful messing with that. Phenolic is brittle and might shatter on you. Also, the EGR passage should have a metal sleeve in the hole to keep it from overheating and cooking the plastic. I'd really suggest getting one with the passage already in place.

                        Chrome is factory, as far as I know. It was on the car when I bought it. I've seen other cars with the chrome too, so I'm thinking it is factory.

                          Yea a few people have the chrome on here. I'm 99.9% sure it's factory.

                            Actually i only have 13 posts because i was on CV.net (sorry).

                              Well it's too late for me; already have it.
                              My neighbor has a good hole saw, so he'll drill the EGR hole for me.

                              I thought phenolic repels heat?
                              Why would i then need a metal sleeve?
