This is on the '89 CV. When the car is in neutral and I press the pedal down, there's no noise. When the car is in gear and I press the pedal down, there is a noise. It sounds like something is rubbing or lacking lube. What all comes off the lever under the throttle body (I know, it's easy, but I'm friggin' tired). Could it be a cable to the trans? Is there anything in there to lube? Can any of the cables bind up? All info is appreciated. Come to think of it, I believe the Cougar had this noise, too.

The noise happens while the car is running and I'm driving. Doesn't matter if I'm taking off from a stop or if I'm accelerating in traffic. If the car is in neutral and running, there is no noise, which is why it has me so confused. I suppose I could do some testing with the car not running to try and pin point it.Last edited by monterey1962; 03-21-2006, 02:05 AM.

Try putting her in gear and then keeping her in place with the e-brake, if you hear the noise then it's engine/tranny related so while still in gear you can walk out (how much do you trust your e-brake?), open the hood, and try to figure out where it's coming from. If you hear no noise then the problem is probably wheel/axle/driveshaft related, you may be able to examine the rear axle by lifting the rear of the car in the air on good jackstands and then leaving her idle in "D" (so the wheels spin).
