    C8 heads?

I found a set of 68 c8 4v heads for cheap. These have 53.5cc chambers right? I was thinking of porting them out a bit, and putting them on my motor or the one I am going to rebuild. Since they are high compression and were on GT. 350's I think they would be a good set of low buck heads. Would I run into piston to valve clearence issues with the cam in my sig. What do yall think?

1968, what year waw the 302 introduced? 289 heads have "289" cast into them. They will give you >10:1 compression.

my C9 heads have 302 cast into them... i believe 69 was the first year of the 302... so those would have to be 289 heads (or maybe 351 heads?). my c9s have 59cc chambers, which means the 289 should be a bit smaller probably? check to see valve size while your at it.

68 was the first year for the 302. I would imagine they are probably just like 289 heads. So if I port them and clean them up a bit, will it be a pretty good head performance wise? Tom also suggested that I would need to switch to hardend valve seats to run on unleaded gas.

I read in Mustang Monthly a while back that the '68 302 4V heads are a pretty good factory small block head, second to the DO 351W. Since '68 was the only year of the 302-4V (except for the '83-'85 Mustang HO, but they had different heads of course), they are rare, but flow better than 289 heads from what I have heard. They should have a C8OE-F part number. Their combustion chambers were indeed 53.5cc, smaller than the 289 heads. In fact, they had the smallest combustion chamber size of all factory small block heads, save for the '63 289 Hi-Po and eariler 221 heads (they had tiny valve, though).
The 289 head flows as well as E7TE's, so if the 302 4V flow better and have more compression, it should make more power. Compression is may be a concern for pump gas, but it's doable.
The 289 4V used flat top pistons, but I dunno about the 302-4V. Mock it up with clay, but I don't think you'll have any issues.
