    Quick question on exhaust

I found a thread on here(and of course now can't find it again) that said some of you guys have used S-10 mid pipes to join the H-pipe to the mufflers. My question is what wheelbase S-10 did you order for? There are three lengths in the Walker catalog and I want to get the right ones.

walker 43281......have used these a bunch of times.. 2.25"(no flange, need a pr of flanges for a 86-93 mustang) and maremont 43281 (2.5" and come with a flange but it's kind of on the wide side and the bend isnt as good)

also i have used aftermarket mustang 2.5" midpipes with extensions

I am using walker 43281 on my car. Like Lincolnmania said..ya have to order the flanges so they can bolt up to the h pipe. They weren't a direct fit..mine needed some trimming so the mufflers would line up and such.

Looks like the direction I'll be going.

Scott, how long of an extension pipe do you use off of these, assuming these are like the one's you use.

And any ideas on 2 1/2" tailpipes? She's a wagon, so I just want the up and over and turn out right behind the rear tire.

Anyone use the Dynomax 54016 and 54017 pipes? They are 2 1/2" tailpipes for the Impala SS. Any reason I couldn't use these?

wagons need wagon tailpipes IIRC. lots of sedan guys use the impala SS pipes though.

I would think sedan pipes would work... just need to have that last bend put in... or cut them short and put some angles on with new tips.

12" extensions should do you for the mid pipes, they will need to be trimmed to fit
yucatechs wagon has the impala ss tails, i had to get a little creative with cutting and welding the pipe to come out the side along with some universal turn downs, comes out like stock......if you want it perfect looking just have an exhaust shop finish the tails.

yup! I did dual exhaust for my wagon a couple weeks ago.
S10 midpipes and impala tailpipes were fine. Ended up trimming a fair bit off of my midpipes. Like, a few inches over a foot cut off with a hacksaw.
In fact, if I had had more money, and could go back and do it over, there's plenty of room in the wagon design for 2 20" mufflers if you want it a little quieter. That would mean cutting another 6" off the midpipes, but no issue. Just used a hacksaw.

You know how pipes have a flared end just like 3/32" larger in diameter so it fits around the nonflared end, and you can put a conventional exhaust clamp on it?
Since my cuts in the midpipes were near some sections that had been partially bent, the flared section on the muffler did not fit over them. Might want to order a couple band clamps, if they're any cheaper online.

And I did just use elbows and then some relatively non-flashy chrome tips to take the exhaust out the sides of the wagon, just a few inches behind the wheels just like you want it yourself. Some sort of straightpipe, maybe 36", would take it out the back if you want it that way instead.

Cool. THanks for the ideas on the pipes. Should be doing this in the not to distant future.

Get Walker 43281 for 2.25", Maremont 339221 for 2.5". No idea why different brands should use different diameters for the exact same part, but I own a pair of each, and they really are different diameters.

Maremonts are cheaper and include clampy flanges, but the slots do need to be modified. Walkers are pricy and smaller PLUS you have to buy the clampy flanges separately for several dollars each, which annoys me to no end.

Don't know why anyone thought B-body tailpipes wouldn't work with a wagon, since they end right behind the wheels anyway.

Be prepared for loudness. Consider getting a pair of short glasspacks to add as resonators. Exhaust note itself is only as loud as your mufflers, but the resonant drone from a full 2.5" system is utterly unbearable. 2.25" tailpipes have less drone without resonators, but will need to be either pieced together or custom bent. The ones I have were custom bent for my P72's previous owner.
