    351 swap headers - STUCK!

hey mangs, I've got the driver's side in fine but the passenger side header is hitting on the air pump tube (that goes down sort of on the inside of the control arm), it's hitting where there's the check valve or whatever and it goes from rubber to metal lines.

I have header wrap and obviously that adds a little thickness and limits the ability to slide/bump past things, but the thought occured to me that maybe no one with smog pump intact has put these headers on. They are technically for a mustang app...

    questions:
Can anyone 100% confirm these headers will fit with the smog pump?

How much grinding can I do on that valve before it will turn into a bigass leak? I may only need 1/4 of an inch but would rather not have to unravel all the wrap and such.

Am I just doing something wrong, trying to snake it in from the top, not the bottom? Does something have to be removed to fit it?

I've wrestled with it for close to an hour, even resorted to prying and rubber-hammering, but it just won't drop down past the air pump check valve.

    I did it.

I cut the air tube, and replaced that section of tube with a length of high temp silicone hose.

I routed it away from the heat, and hid it; can't even tell what I did. Never had any issues after 4 years.

I retained all of the air hoses, etc. There were no issues with support, either.

That may be my solution if the butchery I'll end up performing tomorrow doesn't look like it'll hold.

For now I'm thinking I'll just hack the pipe off 4-5 inches below the valve, and replace that piping with a longer length of hose, so the valve is more up around the suitcase.

I went overkill on the header wrap, because I wanted it to all sort of look like one mass, and that meant giving the area that is near the tube at least 3 layers, so heat isn't too big a concern.

My father and I took 1/2" copper tubing and fab'd the section of air tube that you're talking about. I had the same problem when I put headers on the lopo.

I think 1511? Not sure. I know it's what nate used.
They're on now, rerouted the air pipe up higher.

                    1511 are the chrome ones.

                    15110 are the coated ones.
