Sorry to blow up, but im at a cross roads. I have a beautiful '91 CV, but i have the opportunity to trade it for a similarly low mileage '00 GM. Both are under 150k, and are nearly pristine interior wise and presentable exterior wise. But, the '00 is better out of the box(no pun). Ive always loved the 'old school' styling of the box, but the '00 is sleaker and with a couple Marauder parts, could be made more aggressive looking. The only catch is; the '00 has a cooling problem(maybe head gaskets). The labor and the parts dont bother me. What really bothers me is trading my box to a used car dealer and some ass-hat buys it and puts scissor doors and those ridiculous wagon wheels on it, completely ruining my old ride!l Also, Im familiar with mods, but i speak pushrod pretty fluently. I understand the mods can handle some boost fairly reliably, but a built 393 in a whale would be pretty rad. Thats right, i said "rad". What opinions do u guys have on my situation? Id love to know from the panther community.

The 91 is cheaper to modify. The 91 is in better condition. stick with it.

+1 keep the 91.
x infinity cooling issues and mod motors don't play nice.

I would keep the box. Like these guys said, it's cheaper to mod boxes. I would swap in a 408W stroker if you're looking for a solid and mean boulevard cruiser. I've been told that a 393W stroker is more difficult to balance than a 408W. IDK why that is; but that's what I have been told by different sources.
Now, if you get the '00 MGM; I would think about dropping a 5.4L in there and modify the engine. If I had one of those cars; that's what I would do with it.

If the '91 is in good shape I'd keep it!

Does the 91 have mechanical problems? if not, trading it for a newer car that has known problems that could be very expensive to fix is not a good idea.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

if the 00 has overheating/cooling problems it could become very expensive very quickly...and aluminium doest take to low coolant/overheating well at all.....the coolant problem may be a bad/warped intake manifold....assuming it the cooling/overheating problem hasnt already caused significant hidden damage to the motor already, just fixing the existing issues will not be cheap...if you need to replace the intake manifold, you are looking at $250.00.....not including labor and any other misc. parts needed.....worst case...you will need a new motor...i would keep the 91 for two reasons....1 you know what you have(and you like it too)...#2...there are better deals out there

Keep the box. The fact you are concerned with wagon wheels and scissor doors says enough right there that the moment you hand over the title, you will be rueing the decision even if the car goes to a good home.
Buy the 00 if you want a project (While keeping the box!)

The box. Hands down haha. The beauty of it is theres just enuf computer stuff to make more power/mpg/ease of driving, yet its a pushrod car that really doesnt have anything so complex you cant figure it out and an afternoon. Plus the style and comfort. I beat a brand new corvette zr1 on slicks (he got a .2 head start) at the strip in the semi finals this year in my street tired/mud on the sides/huntin stuff in the trunk box and needless to say there is no cooler feeling...Finally have an on the books porting/custom fab business!
