So after reading through a lot of the 5.0 build threads, I've started piecing one together myself. I've come to the conclusion I would like to start with a new or re manufactured short block. So far I've found this

Don't go mail order route. Those engine are hastily throw together with cheap parts with little attention to detail.

Call up a local machine shop and talk to them. Ask around, see who's known for what.
