More peak power and maybe peak torque but what about the torque curve? the torque curve on our engines, stock, is stupid low. like almost diesel low.
If I did a non Ford engine swap in one of these it would be a blown 3800. Tons of aftermarket and it's a fantastic motor.Last edited by 1990LTD; 08-19-2013, 10:07 PM.sigpic

A concept that was hard for me to wrap my head around was the Honda vs Toyota people. I used to lump all imports into the same "ricer" category. Then I learned that there are differences and that it was akin to our Chevy vs Ford arguments. Meh, people grow outta that crap eventually.

I'm thinking the 4 banger gas mileage would be horrendous on the highway in a Panther. As others have said, a decent 6 would be ideal. If you want to go non-Ford, try to find an I6 out of an old BMW E36/E46 with a manual. Trust me, you'll like it. Lot's of 3-Series BMWs running around with 302/T5s so I imagine going the other way won't be too hard. Putting a boxer 4 in there would be rough, unless you somehow mounted it behind the k-member.
As far as your 4-banger family mobile, I have never seen a new one riced out. Matter of fact, unless I go into the city I never see any of those around here. Must take a strange individual to want one of those things, eh? Oh, I hear they like to eat tires, too

I would go with a 302 compression lowered to around 7.5 to 1. Dual turbos, two from 2.3 Murcurs (sp) set them up with 10lbs boost max, mild turbo cam, maybe around 3.08 to 3.27 depending on tire dia. Should put a panther in the low 12s to high 11s easy. Fuel economy around 30 mpg.
Basicly performance would be about the same as a 604 cu in engineScars are tatoos of the fearless
