Town Car 5 Speed Swap. I had drilled a 1 1/4 hole in the firewall to mount the firewall adjuster. Setting up the geometry of the cable routing was the biggest nightmare of the whole project. Along with that the issue of having a thin metal firewall that flexed when the clutch cable was being operated. The firewall adjuster tore through the firewall. I added a washer behind the adjuster. Then that tore through. Then I made up a reinforcement plate that never got welded in but remained sandwiched between the firewall and cable. Then that slowly tore thorough. Finally yesterday my friend who is an iron worker and welder helped get this thing right. He stitched up the existing torn sheetmetal and fabbed up a contoured boxed in reinforcement plate out of 1/8 in. thick steel that disburses the force of the cable across the pinch seam that runs along the drip edge of the firewall. Welded it all the way around to box it in. Bored the hole for the firewall adjuster and she lined up. BEAUTIFUL. Big Headache Resolved. Still in primer. I have since painted it white, trimmed the wiper motor housing back some more and reinstalled the trim and mouldings.
